What We Do and Why We Do It
We are located in the beautiful outback of NSW, Australia in the historic township of Broken Hill. Out of a love for children, creativity, books and our community we founded Big Sky Stories in 2022 to provide the children and families of the NSW outback a place to gather and be inspired through the world of books, creativite arts, storytelling and sharing.
Why?
To tackle this (not so) fun fact:
The 2021 Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data states that 31.1% of children in far west NSW are developmentally at risk or vulnerable in language and cognitive skills at kindergarten age - significantly higher than the state average of 15.2%.
That’s why.
Through bringing together our collective knowledge, skills and experiences in primary education, early childhood learning, support roles and creative arts education, we want to make a positive impact on this statistic.
The Big Sky Stories model has been developed with Professor Emerita Robyn Ewing AM, whose knowledge and experience has been invaluable.
